How our Crystal came to shine: The history of Kristall …

1943, 30th May, Pertisau am Achensee: Birth of Adolf Rieser, son of Anna and Johann Rieser. Childhood with four siblings in the war and post-war years. Eight years of primary school then an apprenticeship in the parent's hotel business in Pertisau and at Hotel Krichenwirt in Reith im Alpbachtal.

1960: Guesthouse "Villa Rieser" (built by the Rieser parents as a retreat) is taken over by Adolf Rieser at just 17 years old. About a year to get the licence from the hotel industry.
Cost per night for the first guests in early 1960: 36 Austrian Schilling with full-board (approx. €2.60!). Permanantly rising numbers of guests make a renovation necessary...

1965: Extension of Villa Rieser to 70 bedrooms with shower/WC and hotel renamed "Hotel Kristall"

1967: Aquisition of 1700 m² of land, building started on the first public, heated outdoor swimming pool in the region of Achensee. In the following years continuous growth of the hotel business

1976: First large, demanding renovation:

• Extension of the restaurant to 60 seating places
• Construction of a new kitchen
• Creation of 3 different relaxation areas
• Installation of sauna and solarium
• Fitting of a lift

1993: Indoor pool built

2000: Extension of the north-facing rooms

2003: Extension and comprehensive modernisation of the south-facing rooms

2005: Renovation of the west-facing rooms

2007, At the end of the year: handing over of the business to the siblings Silvia & Adi Rieser, although father Johann still supports his children with advice.

2008, 2nd half of the year: Renovation and expansion of the wellness area:

• 5 different saunas and steam baths,
• 3 different relaxation rooms,
• 5 treatment rooms for massages, baths, packs and beauty treatments.
• New fitness room
• Buffet room with a show-cooking station in the restaurant,
• New restaurant,
• Redecoration of the Notaburgastube room.
• Renovation and expansion of the east-facing rooms (and thus the completion of all room renovations)

2009: New style of the Kristall garden and pool.

The sparkling of such a jewel has wowed many illusturous guests over the years. Prominent guests include the Baron von Rothschild, the French Prime Minister, singer Howard Carpendale and many more ...
